Tennis is a very exciting sport to watch but a demanding sport to play.
Here are a few tips to keep your body going during tennis season.
- Warm-Up & Cool-Down: How you warm-up and cool-down before and after playing tennis really helps your body to perform optimally and recover after play. Your routine for warm-up and cool-down should include light jogging, stretching to arms and legs. This can help to prevent post game soreness and injuries.
- Stay Hydrated: Tennis is usually played outdoors where the body is exposed to heat. Remember to stay hydrated with water and electrolyte sport drinks before, during and after training or games to prevent dehydration.
- Strength training: Tennis drills are great to help you improve at the sport but we cannot forget to specifically train the muscles that help perform these drills. Using body weight or resistance bands to help strengthen the legs and arms can help those specific muscles perform better in the game.
- See a Physical Therapist: Sometimes your stretches at training and at home may not be enough to release tight muscles. You also may be unsure of which particular muscles need to be specifically strengthened or stretched. This is where you Physical Therapist comes in. We can guide you on what exercises are beneficial for you as well as use different manual techniques to help reduce muscle tension, soreness and pain.
