How should you Lift?
Lately, in the clinic we have been getting lots of questions on how you should lift. There are many things you should do and not do when preparing to lift. Check out the top 5 things to know when lifting an object. Please see below.
- Demonstration
Step 1: Get as close to the object as possible.
Step 2: Use a wide stance with one foot forward and to the side of the object for good balance.
Step 3: Keep your back straight, push your buttocks out, and use your legs and hips to lower yourself down to the object.
Step 4: Slide the object as close to you as possible.
Step 5: Prepare for the lift, tighten your core muscles, look forward and upward, keep a straight and strong back.
Lifting is a part of everyday life and these simple steps can be easily implemented and used readily quickly. Practicing safe daily lifting techniques will limit the risk of developing pain to the lower back and legs. Remember no matter how small or large the object may appear please get as close as possible to the object as possible before lifting.
